CPC to be slapped with a Rs. 6 additional tax on diesel, but no change in selling prices |
July 14 (Island) Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) would suffer a drop in profit of an estimated Rs. 216 million per month govt imposing an additional six rupee tax on a litre of diesel, its only profit earning product with effect from July 1. Currently, CPC earned a profit of Rs. 31.5 per a litre of auto diesel. From this year January to May, it had earned a total of Rs. 6727 million profit from 216.67 million litres of diesel, according to Ministry.

Taxes from fuel soars with more cars in Sri Lanka, higher demand |
July 14 (EN) Taxes from fuel has risen six fold in the first four months of 2016 to 17.2 billion rupees with more cars on the road and demand rising after pump prices were cut. A finance ministry report said demand was up with the vehicle fleet expanding 11.6% and lower pump prices encouraging use. Excise duty revenues from petroleum products rose 614% to 17.2 billion rupees in up to April 2016, from 2.4 billion rupees in 2015. In early 2015 fuel retail prices were cut sharply cut.
