Total vehicle registrations fell to 42,443 in January from 45,218 in Dec, although the number is up from a low of 32,006 in January last year. Two-wheelers accounted for a bulk of these vehicle registrations in January at 31,158 units.

Prison bus shooting: sniffer dogs lead police to abandoned factory

Firearms found at Mt Lavinia court complex
Mar 1 (NR) A stock of weaponry suspected for the use of an attack has been discovered at the Magistrates court complex in Mount Lavinia. Accordingly the police stated, a Chinese firearm, 4 live bullets, a revolver and an additional 6 bullets have been discovered concealed in a bag. In view of the discovery all court proceedings have been halted and all persons at the court complex have been rounded up for questioning. Victims of 2012 Welikada prison riots to be compensated

HIV among Sri Lankan youth on the rise
Mar 1 (DN) New HIV infections among youths in SL shows an upward trend around the past 5 years. Earlier it was among young adults around 30 and 35 but now this age has reduced to 20 to 25.
