Keells Foods net grows 34% in June, revenues up
Jul 20 (EN) Keells Food Products said profits grew 34% from a year earlier to 56.3 million rupees in the June 2018 quarter on expanding sales of processed meats to households. Keells Food reported earnings of 2.21 rupees a share in the quarter, interim results filed with the CSE showed. The share last traded at 130.50 rupees. Akurana PS Secretary convicted of taking a bribe
Jul 20 (Island) Colombo High Court imposed a 5 year rigorous imprisonment term on the Secretary of the Akurana PS Hameed Niyas, who was convicted of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to issue a permit to operate a stone quarry. In addition a fine of Rs. 10,000 too was imposed and in the event of default a one year rigorous imprisonment term was imposed. SC awards Rs. 100,000 compensation for wrongful arrest and detention
Jul 20 (FT) Supreme Court directed the state to pay a total of Rs. 100,000 to a mother and her daughter who were wrongfully arrested and detained by the police on a false complaint.
