Feb 14 (EN) Prez's proposal to provide immediate relief measures for the public was approved by the country�s Cabinet ahead of March 9 LG polls as his govt�s popularity is on the decline due to some hard decisions he has taken. Prez Wickremesinghe, who was elected through an unprecedented parliament vote in July last year, has raised personal taxes to as much as 36 percent to boost the govt revenue in line with an IMF program to move out of the current unprecedented economic crisis.

Dialog revenue up 26% in FY 2022
Feb 14 (FT) Dialog Axiata has ended FY22 with a health revenue growth of 26% but its bottom line was hit by sharp depreciation of the Rupee and other aberrations. It said 4Q took into account the one off/non-cash provisions amounting to Rs. 12.1 billion. AG files revision application with Colombo HC against release of IUSF convenor
Feb 14 (FT) The Attorney General yesterday filed a revision application before the Colombo High Court seeking the nullification of the order issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate to release the IUSF convenor Wasantha Mudalige from charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). Sri Lanka bans single-use plastics including yoghurt cups, straws
Feb 14 (DM) Cabinet has decided to ban the importing, selling, using and distribution of 7 single-use plastic products effective from June 1st, 2023, Cabinet spokesman, Minister Bandula Gunawardana said. They are straws, mixers, yogurt cups and spoons, plates, cups, knives, forks, garlands and string hopper mats made of plastic. �This is another step taken in the process to protect the environment. SLC triples match fees for women's cricketers

Sri Lanka to introduce new excise legislation replacing century-old ordinance
