Christians protest anti-conversion bill |
Jan 30 (UCAN) An estimated 4,000 members of evangelical churches in and around the capital rallied recently to protest a bill against religious conversion. The Prohibition of Forcible Conversion Bill will be debated and voted on in parliament sometime in February, local media recently reported. Evangelical protesters gathered for five hours on Jan. 26 at Vihara Maha Devi Park in central Colombo. They prayed and sang hymns using amplifiers, and listened to speeches by their leaders.

Troops find 152 mm artillery piece |
Jan 30 (SAMN) Wednesday�s recovery of a 152 mm artillery piece by 58 Division troops conducting clearing operations in the Vishvamadu area would help Sri Lanka to identify one of the major suppliers of armaments to the LTTE. An authoritative military official said the artillery piece, the first recovered by the army on the Vanni front was likely to be of Chinese or East European origin.
