Sri Lanka stocks close down 0.2% |
June 26 (LBO) Stocks closed down 0.22% on Wednesday, due to index heavy stocks extending losses, brokers said. The benchmark Colombo All Share Index closed 13.54 points lower at 6,072.68 and the S&P SL 20 Index closed 07.60 points lower at 3,422.83 down 0.22%. Turnover was 2.2 million rupees up from 455 million a day earlier. Foreigners brought 298 million rupees worth shares while selling 934 million rupees in a day that 103 stocks advanced and 79 stocks declined.

Van collides with train, Six killed |
June 26 (Island) At least five persons were killed and six others injured when the van, in which they were traveling last night, collided with a train on an unprotected railway crossing, close to the Alutgama station, the police said. The van, said to be carrying a group of eleven, from Dodangoda, on a poson sight seeing tour, had collided with a south bound train from Colombo at about 7:30 p.m. According to the police all the dead were women. Five of the injured had been admitted to the hospital.

Woman found asleep inside parked vehicle |
