Road terror: 94 killed in nine days |
Apr 20 (ST) At least 94 people were killed and 150 seriously hurt in road traffic accidents during the past nine days and police attributed most of the tragedies to reckless and drunken driving. SLTB grosses highest ever income during festive season |
Apr 20 (DM) SL Transport Board (SLTB) said it had earned an income of about Rs. 450 million within a week starting from April 7 when the special bus service was launched to facilitate commuter travel during the New Year season. SLTB Chief Operations Superintendent H.M. Chandrasiri said that it recorded an income of Rs. 82 million on April 12 which was the highest ever income earned within a day in the SLTB history. �During a normal day the SLTB earns only about Rs. 57 million.

Sri Lanka port profit, revenues down despite higher volumes |
Apr 20 (LBO) Operating profits at Sri Lanka's Ports Authority fell 53.4% to 2.4 billion rupees in 2013 with revenues also down 2.3% to 37.2 billion rupees, despite an increase in container volumes at Colombo. Expenditure had increased 5.8% to 34.8 billion rupees. Containers handled in Colombo rose 2.8% to 4.306 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2012. Transshipment containers also rose 3.4% to 3.274 million.

Economic growth amidst serious apprehensions |

Crocodile rocks households bordering canals, waterways |
Apr 21 (ST) A five-foot marsh crocodile that entered a garden in Batticaloa on Monday night was captured by the residents, the latest in a series of crocodile incursions into human habitations.
