CB Governor says 2Q growth should be higher than 2.6%
Sept 28 (LBO) Sri Lanka�s second quarter economic growth for this year should be higher than the published 2.6%, Central Bank Governor said. Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy said that he would expect it to be higher than the current figure, once it gets revised. �If you look at proxies for growth like availability of cement for the construction sector, electricity consumption and credit growth, economic growth may not have slowed down as much as 2.6%,� Governor said.

Sept 29 (EN) SL�s Customs should have time limits for completing inquiries into detained cargo in order to reduce costs and speed up shipments, an official representing ship agents said. Monetary Policy Review: Sept 2016
Sept 29 (Island) According to the Department of Census and Statistics (DCS), Sri Lankan economy is provisionally estimated to have grown by 2.6%, year-on-year, during the second quarter of 2016 compared to the growth of 7% recorded in the same period of 2015. Meanwhile, growth in the first quarter 2016 was revised to 5.2%. In the second quarter of 2016, Services related activities grew by 4.9% while Industry related activities recorded a moderate expansion of 2.2%.

Jaffna employers ignoring EPF, ETF and labour contracts
Sept 29 (DN) Sri Lanka is one of the rare developing countries in the region that has had in place, by law, a pension and social safety net for workers. These two funds are called EPF and ETF, and employers are statutorily obligated to contribute to both. The study in Jaffna revealed that for more than two-thirds of workers, their employers are not paying into the funds.
